Why Study Sports Management?…
For better or worse, the sport industry has long left the amateur spirit of the early Olympic Games, firmly establishing itself as a true member of the entertainment family, next to music and cinema, surpassing them in size and revenues, and becoming a major purveyor of images for the TV industry. It has generated stars who compare in success with the biggest celebrities Hollywood has to offer, and has invaded the fashion industry. It is a major force in shaping the youth culture, a factor of integration and understanding.

...For what opportunities?…
Over the last twenty years, the growth of the Sports Industry has been exponential. It is now among the 25 biggest industries in the US, and its revenues approach the 100 billion dollars mark. It provides jobs, not only for athletes, but for thousands of professionals and managers, offering many exiting careers. It is not only a thrilling industry in itself, but it also an entry door to the other fields of the entertainment business. Some of Columbia College’s Alumni have already paved the way.

…Why Columbia College?…

First, Chicago - which image has been completely revamped over the last few years thanks to the incredible success of its basketball team – is blessed with many professional sports institutions. Columbia College has already established direct links with each team and many sport organizations in our city, and has secured opportunities for interesting internships. Interestingly enough, despite the growth of such programs nationwide, none of the Chicago academic institutions has fully developed a concentration in the field. Moreover, most of the existing programs are better suited to coaches than managers.
