Annual Arts Entrepreneurship Awards honors local arts managers

The Arts Entrepreneurship Awards Program of Columbia College Chicago honors the spirit of entrepreneurship in arts organizations. The program awards both for-profit and nonprofit arts organizations and/or individuals that have demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial skills, innovation, willingness to take risks, leadership and management.
Arts entrepreneurs recognize and take advantage of opportunities that broaden the cultural, educational and entertainment values of the arts. Entrepreneurship in the arts includes, but is not confined to, such activities as the creation of successful new arts organizations, developing new ventures within existing arts organizations, the creative development of new or expanded facilities, as well as the development and expansion of the prospective audiences.
This year’s Arts Entrepreneurship Award winners were honored at a luncheon on September 26, 2007. Proceeds from the luncheon benefited the Chuck Suber Scholarship fund. Honorees included:
Lifetime achievement: The Academy of Movement and Music/Momenta; Stephanie Clemens, Owner

Nonprofit, Budget under $1 million: Silk Road Theatre Project; Jamil Khoury and Malik Gillani, Artistic and Managing Directors

Leslie Hindman, founder of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, was the keynote speaker for the event. Recognized as the Midwest’s leading fine art auctioneers, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers has built a worldwide reputation built on its full-service approach.
