Making Modern Energy: Fashion Columbia 2007

On May 10th, 2007, Columbia College Chicago’s fashion design and fashion retail management students made modern energy in Fashion Columbia 2007, the college’s 10th annual student-produced fashion show. The runway-style fashion show began with a matinee at 1 p.m. on May 10. A second evening show was held at 7 p.m., followed by a reception.
Student designers worked to interpret the theme “Modern Energy” into designs, in the form of creatively constructed dresses, dramatically detailed garments, and even a computer wire corset. The show’s signature color of acid green was required in all of the pieces displayed during the show’s finale. The students spent almost nine months conceptualizing their artistic collaborations and “the public witnessed some of the most interestingly inventive and impeccably crafted pieces” says Dianne Erpenbach, Director of Fashion/Retail Management for Columbia College Chicago. For some designers, this unique platform signifies the culmination of their college experience, as many of the pieces are from senior collections.
Students enrolled in the Advanced Fashion Show Production class, under the direction of Nena Ivon, Manager of Public Relations Special Events/Fashion for Saks Fifth Avenue, were responsible for the entire production of the show, including selecting professional models, contracting with hair and make-up artists and arranging the music and stage production.Student producers for Fashion Columbia 2007 included: Alvin M. Fabian, Amanda Frazer, Jen Grygiel, Margaret Morici, Madeline Noelker, Juliann Peebles, and Katie Williams. The producers spend an entire year planning this professional production which reflects the work, dedication, and original concepts of the Fashion Design and Fashion/Retail Management programs.
