The Forum

The Forum, produced by Columbia’s student organization, Click, and sponsored by the Arts Entertainment and Media Management Department, is an educational series providing an up close look at the careers, experiences, and personal opinions of accomplished individuals in the art business world. With one innovative guest speaker, one knowledgable moderator, and one attentive audience, The Forum creates a platform, allowing the most successful people in the entertainment business to share their stories of expertise with those who dream of being triumphant in the growing world of art. Created by the students for the students, knowledge in passed from one person to the next providing networking contacts, life long business relationships, and mentoring opportunities.
The first event, held Wednesday, September 19th, featured Jonathan Rhodes, Executive Director of ThreeWalls, and Neysa Page-Liberman, Director of Columbia’s [C]Spaces.
ThreeWalls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to contemporary art and art education, provides workspace and exhibition opportunities for emerging artists who are at pivotal points in their careers. The residency and exhibition programs are focused on supporting practices that might otherwise go unrepresented in commercial settings or traditional institutions.
[C]Spaces plans and promotes nearly three dozen gallery exhibitions each year on Columbia’s campus, as well as fiction and poetry readings, film and video screenings, music, theater, and dance performances, most of which showcase student work to the public.
After the speaking session, the audience reconvened in the Underground Café, below the theater, for a coffee talk promoting networking and mentoring opportunities.
The Forum events are set to run bi-weekly, at 6:30 - 8:00 pm in room 101 of Ferguson Hall, 600 Sout Michigan Avenue, and will feature professionals in the business of arts, including Music Managers, Gallery Owners, and Fashion Show Producers.
